Hi Timothy,
this is definitely not normal :-), we do a lot of image capturing and then
turn those images into movies just like you do. My first guess would be that
you are using the old renderer (which is default) and you have a large
dataset you are recording most likely this is relatively simple to fix. What
we need from you are more details on your system and settings to track down
the issue. Specifically, I would like to know your ImageVis3D version,
systems' parameters (i.e. amount of main memory, graphics card type,
Operating system, etc.), what type of image you are recording (i.e. PNG or
JPG, etc.) what size the dataset is, and to what image size you are
capturing.
Once we have that info I'm sure we can speed hints up significantly, normally
it should take in the order of a second or at most a few seconds to record an
image. I'm also CCing Alex Schiewe on this mail, he does most of the image
recording in ImageVis3D these days for various purposes and once we figured
out what the performance problem is he might have some interesting hints for
you how to do nice sequences. Into the latest version of ImageVis3D we have
integrated a number of interesting features to facilitate capturing image
sequences, such as the ability to record keyframes along a flight path and
interpolate between them to create a smooth animation.
Cheers

Any help will be very appreciated.
