Just curious, but is it still necessary to have a completely separate branch? Could CGT go in a Manta project library and just link to the trunk...

Why? Just don't enable scenes that won't compile for you and everything's groovy. The scenes should be off by default, so only people that go around turning on scenes willy nilly will have problems.
