[Manta] gdb trouble with reading shared library symbols

Since moving to my new machine (albacore.sci.utah.edu, aluminum imac running 5.2.1), gdb takes a very long time (5 to 10 minutes) to read shared library symbols when I ask it to attach to manta. Has anyone else experienced that, or know what is causing it?
