Hi Chris,

Water and glass are usually modeled using the Dielectric material. For that you'll need to supply the proper index of refraction. Water is 1.333 and glass is in the 1.5 area (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_refractive_indices). Keep in mind that if you are using a dielectric, you need your objects to have thickness since while inside the dielectric material the ray can attenuate (change color as it travels through the object) and it can also refract and reflect. So a glass window, for instance, would not be modeled as a rectangle, but as a thin cube.

Hi,

I built Manta from source this morning and installed the ParaView plug in. I can create solids that are translucent and or reflect with shadows on reflections. Very cool. I'm wondering where I should look for additional information on how to actually control Manta to get a scene that looks the way I want it to. I guess I probably need a raytracing tutorial. All I'd like to do is have the outer box (triangular mesh) mimic thin glass and an inner solid (triangular mesh) mimic pure solid water water.
Thanks,
Chris
