Hi,

I am interested in using SCIRun for my project at where I work.  I would
like to know if the software is supported on the IRIX OS or the SGI
workstations?  Thank you.

IRIX (SGI) has always been a primary platform for SCIRun. So, yes, the released version of SCIRun (1.24) does run under IRIX. This said, it should be noted that SGI and IRIX are (unfortunately) becoming less used (everywhere). Also, the IRIX SGI's we use to develop and test SCIRun on are aging and we currently do not plan to purchase newer IRIX systems. Because of this, the longevity of SCIRun under IRIX is questionable. With respect to the SGI workstation (the Prism running Altix) we have ported SCIRun to this architecture. However, there were several problems (especially with respect to the graphics card and GL performance) that caused SCIRun not to perform optimally under Altix. Additionally, we found debugging on the Altix to be extremely slow and painful. For these reasons, we have not recently used any of our resources to update SCIRun on the Prism, though for the most part it should still (limitedly) work.

I hope this answers your question. If you have more specific questions, please feel free to email me.

Sincerely,
          J. Davison de St. Germain
