Hi Jess,

I followed your explanation and after adding c:\Program Files\MATLAB\R201xb\bin\win64which contains libeng.dll to system path, problem is solved. Thank you so much.

Btw, it worked fine in both windows 8 (Matlab2016b) and windows 10 (Matlab2018b).

Best,
Hüseyin

Hi Hüseyin,

It looks like you are running windows.  Have you added the Matlab libs to your system path?  There is an FAQ that points to how you would do this on scirun.org.  If that doesn’t work, please some more details on your OS and matlab version, and send the error that you see when you run an empty InterfaceWithMatlab module.

cheers,
Jess

Hi all,

Husseyin (cc'd here) is having some troubles using the MATLAB interface in SCIRUN 4. I tried helping, but seems that his problems are beyond my knowledge, hopefully someone in this list can help.

The problem seems to be with the matlab interface connecting to the matlab engine. The terminal response is "please wait while launching matlab ...."
My guess is that SCIRUN does not know where to look for the matlab executable. Does anyone know how to change it in Windows?

Thanks!

Hi Jaume,

I tried it on another PC also and it's still struggling to connect to matlab. The same text which says "please wait while launching matlab ...." is still there. I am sending you my SCIRun Path pictures in attach to compare with yours.

I hope we can find the solution.

Hi Husseyin,

Looks like SCIRUN is struggling to connect to matlab.
I would first try clicking to the connect button in the matlab engine interface (appears in the picture you just sent).
If that does not work, I would make sure that you have the matlab binaries included in the data path.

Hopefully that'll solve your problem. Otherwise we'll have to ask someone at CIBC

Hi Jaume,

Sorry for late response but i was in my hometown for 3 days because of my sister had birth. Thank you for your response.

I worked on Matlab-Cage-Tank-Example.srn from MatlabInterface of Example Networks inside SCIRun folder. I sent you screenshots from the work. I can import files to SCIRun but when i tried to use Interface module, it gave error. Engine Output section is empty. Nothing inside it.

Best,

Hüseyin

Hi Husseyin,

Check that the matlab engine is running. For some reason it does not always start properly when you execute. Check it on the MATLAB ENGINE STATUS tab.

If that doesn't work, please, send me a screenshot of the error. It is really hard to debug the issues with so little description. There could also be useful information in the MATLAB ENGINE OUTPUT tab, which shows matlab's desktop

Hi agai Jaume,

Thank you for your fast response. I'm using SCIRUN 4.7.
In the InterfaceWithMatlab module, when i open it, there is a screen related to Matlab Engine and we have to Start Matlab. In the documentation, textbox of Start Matlab is filled with "matlab -nojvm -nodesktop". But when i tried to execute module with a simple matlab code inside it, red flag(error) occurs. I tried to use it with examples inside the SCIRUN also. But it also gave error. SCIRUN 4.7 is working fine except Matlab Interface.
I am working on an iterative study and need an exchange between Matlab and SCIRUN. So i have to use this module.

Kind regards,
Hüseyin

Hi Husseyin,

Sure, I'll try to help. I'll need more information to understand what are you trying to do.
Which version of SCIRUN are you using? What code are you trying to execute?

The latest SCIRUN version (5) uses a python wrapper to call matlab. Maybe this is the issue? If that is the case, I can redirect you to people that have a better understanding of how to set it up.
I can be more helpful with problems pertaining to the code itself.
