SCIRun 5 Folks,
I am a computer science graduate student at USU,
enrolled this semester in a Scientific Visualization class. I am
looking for a final project topic that might involve my particular
interests in scientific modeling and visualization. I am not
familiar with SCIRun 5, but I see that it is described as an
environment for modeling, simulation and visualization of
scientific problems, which seems right in line with my interests.
Your websites describe SCIRun 5 applications that are mostly for
bio-related purpose, though I presume that does not indicate that
the SCIRun 5 application itself is limited to that particular
field of study. I looked at the Platform Notes - Build
Requirements web page and believe I could get through an
installation on my own. I see there is a Tutorial, and will have
a go at that immediately if a project is a possibility for me
Ideally, I would like to do a term project that does the
following:
- Install SCIRun 5 running on Linux Mint 20 in a
Singularity container (I have some experience here and I'm
pretty sure I can do this)
- Use SCIRun 5 to set up a simple electrostatic physics
experiment: initial conditions of a cathode plate, anode plate
straddling a volume of charged particles
- Use SCIRun 5 to run a simulation of the experiment
- Use SCIRun 5 to present a visualization of running
the experiment
Can you tell me if this would be realistic for a 3 or 4 week
semester project given that I am starting from scratch with SCIRun
5? If this is too ambitious, could I scale it back to the first 2
bullets and get that much done in the time I have? Also, are there
other sources of information, or additional tutorials that would
help me get a basic understanding of the modeling, simulation and
visualization capabilities of SCIRun 5?
Thanks,
Kim Peterson
