Thanks,

That is helpful for the segmentation and I'll use that to clean up the segmentation at the end I believe, but it sounds like smoothing the isosurface will need another program. Thank you.

Cheers,
Rachel

I use a little trick to smooth my segmentations with seg3D2

I use the Level Set Segmentation tool but I put to zero the propagation factor and I increase the smoothness factor. You can use this trick if you have a grayscale image availiable and your unsmoothed segmentation.

Hope it helps

Sergio

Hi Rachel,

Seg3D does not have any tools to smooth isosurfaces. We use other software to process isosurfaces after export from Seg3D. SCIRun, for example, can smooth an isosurface.

If you would like to try SCIRun, please let me know if you need a sample network demonstrating this capability.

Hello,

My name is Rachel Sier. I'm working with Dr. Kent Bachus' lab for prosthetic design at the University of Utah Orthopaedic Research Lab.  The lab currently uses Amira for our segmentation of cadaver bones, but we are looking into doing our segmentation with Seg3D.  I'm having difficulty smoothing the segment's surface once it has been segmented.  It doesn't appear there's a function within Seg3D for this.  There are smoothing functions for masks, but they don't seem to improve the surface created from the selected mask.

Any insight would be extraordinarily helpful, perhaps I'm missing something, or it would be easier to export the isosurface and use another program to smooth it for model creation.  Learning another program would not be entirely ideal, although it would be certainly possible.  I hope to hear from you soon.  Thank you for your time.

Cheers,

Rachel Sier
