Hi team,

I hope this email finds you well. My name is Shreyash Zanjal,I work as a Research Assistant in the CIBORG Lab at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and I am currently working on a project for skull and ventricle analysis involving ShapeWorks. I have CC'd my colleagues in the lab who are also involved in this project. We are eager to get some insights and analysis from ShapeWorks to help us proceed effectively. I have a few questions and would appreciate your guidance on the following points:
  1. How many vertices can we reduce the mesh to while maintaining the exact structure of the original segmentation?
  2. What is the best method to compare the original segmentation with the reduced mesh? (We are thinking to compare the segmentation volumes and DSC scores, but are willing to explore other methods which might help us find the best mesh).
  3. In that case, what would be the ideal number of vertices to balance between mesh simplicity and maintaining a high DSC score?
  4. If we determine an ideal number of vertices, should we keep the number of particles close to the number of vertices, perhaps as a factor of 2?
  5. Can particles be used to define vertices and recreate the mesh? If so, how would this process work in ShapeWorks?
  6. Could you clarify the definition and role of particles in ShapeWorks? Are they merely anchor points, or can they act as vertices for mesh reconstruction?
We are happy to receive any analysis or advice you can provide to help us move forward with our project.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Best Regards,
Shreyash Zanjal
