The ICEs usually happen when you compile with both debug and
optimized. If you choose one or the other it works okay.

I keep getting "internal compiler errors" on code (especially
templated code) that worked fine with gcc 3.3 and icc on linux.
Have you experimented with putting gcc 3.3 on your laptop?
