I think I've got it. All the volatile values I've specified need to be register... I'm asking Thiago to test this with ICC now.

PS: 32bit also didn't work with the intel compiler. So basically, it works only if you get lucky with your compiler.

Oh, so this is only really an issue with a buggy Intel compiler? GCC on the 32 bit mac is fine.
