It may be that the --without does the wrong thing.  What happens when
you do this: ?

../src/configure
--with-thirdparty=/usr/local/SCIRun/Thirdparty/1.22/Linux/gcc-3.3.1-64bit --enable-package="BioPSE Teem VS" --enable-64bit--with-X11_lib=/usr/X11R6/lib6

Is it possible to build SCIRun without the DataIO and MDSPlus packages?

Failing that, I am having difficulty configuring SCIRun to use 
mdsplus-1.1 compiled for x86_64
(Opteron) -- and can't find a newer source distribution of MDSPlus.
