We've had alot of trouble with the ATI cards on linux.  In particular it
seems to be difficult to set up the DRI system correctly so that you can
use any of the more recent OpenGL functionality.  More specifically
DrawArrays doesn't work as it results in a torn up model but there is a
workaround for that in the .scirunrc (to use the older less efficient
drawing routines).  And the Volume Rendering won't work unless it's set
up correctly.  SCIRun will just crash out when you try to call any of
those OpenGL calls.

Theoretically if you get it all set up correctly then these things will
work without problem.  They work on Apple without problem.
