Hello William,

I assume you received this error because you are running it from a
Terminal?  I get the same error as you if I run it from my Terminal
using OS X 10.4.  The problem lies in the fact that you need to run an
X11 terminal instead of the usual OS X terminal.  If you have X11
installed, it should be located in your Utilities folder within the
Applications folder.  If you don't have X11 installed you can install it
using your OS X install cds or through this webpage: 
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/x11formacosx.html

Anyways, just open the X11 application and a terminal window should
appear.  Then cd /usr/local/SCIRun/bin and ./SCIRun and it should work
fine.  Hopefully this simple fix works for you, but let me know if you
run into any other problems.
