I believe it is required for some packages. Which packages have you configured with?

what was the configure line you used, and what directories exist under SCIRun/src/Packages?

It's a little confusing because it claims that the
libraries are optional and then won't proceed. I

The BLAS library handles basic linear algebra support, hence the name. It is standard on many architectures, available as source code for everything, and can be optimized using a system called Atlas. We will discuss this all in the upcoming workshop (Now, aren't you glad you are coming and don't the rest of you want to change your minds and sign up immediately?) as the Atlas support is something new for SCIRun.

I am, however, surprised that the system balked without it. I'll let one of our developer gurus answer that one!
