I successfully converted my 3D Matlab matrix to a LatVolField using then 
MatlabFieldsReader module :)

Unfortunately I am having trouble using the 
MatlabInterface::DataIO::MatlabMatricesReader. When I try to connect the 
matrix to an output port by clicking the port buttons in the gui, the 
following module log message is generated:

REMARK: Matrix 'Ds' cannot be translated into a SCIRun Matrix (dimensions > 2)

Is there something I am missing? Does this module work for 3d matrices?

Hi,

The matlabinterface will do that for you. Use  
MatlabInterface::DataIO::MatlabMatricesReader to make a 3D matrix into  
a LatVolField, Or use MatlabInterface::DataIO::MatlabNrrdsReader to  
make it into a 3D nrrd object which can be converted as well to any  
other object. Just make sure you have the latest version, I think part  
of the converter did not work properly under version 1.23. Save the  
matrix as a file and you can directly read it this way in SCIRun
