1) We have a couple separate email lists for SCIRun 5-related announcements. 
Ayla can get you those. The general plan is to have a beta version of v5 by 
middle of next year.
2) Sure, just send me email, but wait until 2014 since I'm on leave until the 
end of December.

Currently the official Windows build is VS2010 on Windows 7, but soon we'll 
be upgrading to VS2013. Where is the std::tuple error? As for python, that 
has had various build issues from the beginning and we're still working on 
them.

I believe the decision to not use VTK was made at the executive level. Again, 
I defer to Ayla for more explanation.
