Hi Sergio,

From your log file, we can see that the OpenGL-based viewer is not created, which means that this is a graphics driver problem. Your graphics chipset is probably not compatible with Seg3D2.

OOOps, sorry, here is the log file copy...

Hi Jeoren,

enclosed is the new log file, got after renaming the Seg3D folder and
launching the program without its re-install, (if I have correctly
understood your suggestion): unfortunately it's kicked off as before and
nothing happens, despite the new log file creation.
All the best,
Sergio

Hi Sergio and Ayla,

One thing that may help is clearing the Seg3D folder in AppData. It is
storing its current preferences there, as well as the last used
configuration. I am wondering if there is problem with importing this data.
If you remove that directory it should go back to its default settings. The
best way is to just rename the directory Seg3D to something like Seg3D_old
(renaming should force Seg3D to create a new directory, and it will keep a
copy of the old files; in case those cause it to crash it would be nice to
have a copy of them for debugging purposes, hence moving them to a different
directory is preferred over deleting them).

Regards,

Jeroen

Hello Ayla,
Log files found thanks to a Alan Morris hint.
I enclose the set of all log files I found in the folder (some probably
due also to the uninstall-install procedure I tried).

As a test, I installed Seg3D previous ver 1.13 too and it starts
regularly. However I had no time to go over, and so don't know if there is
some further drawback running this version.

Big thanks and cheers,

Sergio

Hi Sergio,

Can you go look in the AppData folder in your user directory? There should
be a Seg3D folder there, under which there should be log files. Please
send me the log file from your last attempt to run Seg3D or let me know if
there aren't any log files in that folder.

Thanks,

Ayla

Hi Jianrong,

You were right about drivers updating: despite being Asus zenbook UX31E
a
very new product, Intel site provides an update for HD graphic family.
Unfortunately, also this update doesn't enable Seg3D2 running.

Thanks for all your help,
Sergio

You are welcome. It's worth trying Intel's website, but I wouldn't set
my
expectation too high. As I mentioned in my last email, Intel's graphics
driver has always been buggy. And Seg3D2 does require some relatively
advanced GPU capabilities, which Intel may not have decent support for.
So
it's highly possible that you won't be able to run
Seg3D2 on that machine.

Hello Jianrong,
thank you for replying.
i checked the drivers version and it's all over the latest; of course
I did check through the software provided by ASUS, the Zenbook maker,
as usual. Do you think it's better to enquire also at the Intel's
website?

Cheers,
Sergio

Hi Sergio,

I think your problem is more likely to be the GPU than the CPU.
Seg3D2 doesn't depend on any special CPU features that would prevent
you from using newer CPUs, and our development machines did have Core
i7 in them. On the other hand, Intel is famous for providing crappy
graphics drivers. Make sure you have the latest graphics driver from
Intel and see what happens.

I hope this helps.

I thought it might be useful to give one more detail in the problem
reported below. Is Seg3D2 compatible with the features of a Intel
"Sandy Bridge"
i7
CPU? If not, this could be the drawback got running Seg3D2.
Thanks again for any help,
Sergio

Oggetto: [Seg3D] seg3d2 doesn't start

Hi everyone!

May someone help about why Seg3d2 (ver 2.1.2 64bit for windows)
doesn't start in windows7 PRO with core i7 and "Intel HD Graphics
Family", running on a "ASUS ZENBOOK UX31E"?

In particular, the program is launched, the starting process icon
appears for about 5-6 sec and then it stops and nothing happens; the
process is kicked off (as is confirmed looking at the "Windows Task
Manager"
panel).

Thank you for any help,
all the best,
Sergio
