I had similar crashes when a openGL dependent window was opened when OpenGL 
was not installed correctly...SCIRun will build, but it crashes when you try 
to open OpenGL dependent modules in a network...
 
One good thing to know is to go to /SCIRun/bin/ and type:
 
ldd scirun | grep GL
 
to find out what drivers SCIRun is actually using as it has gotten confused 
with Fedora/Livna.

Martin,

My glxinfo output is attached (so that it doesn't get clobbered by email 
formatting). Thanks for being willing to take a look at it... I wish I were a 
bit more self-sufficient.

If this is, in fact, dependency-related, you need to be aware of the 
questions I had about package names. I described them on the "talk" section 
of the Ubuntu Prerequisites page of the wiki at:

http://software.sci.utah.edu/SCIRunDocs/index.php/Talk:Ubuntu_Prerequisites_%28Packages_to_Install%29
