Matthew and Martin,

Thanks for the advice and the links... I am in the process of changing display drivers from i810 to intel, so I'll let you know what happens.

Even before I made the changes I had been able to get glxgears to show up without a problem. Does that mean that the drivers definitely aren't responsible, or just that the OpenGL config isn't completely messed up?

I had similar crashes when a openGL dependent window was opened when OpenGL was not installed correctly...SCIRun will build, but it crashes when you try to open OpenGL dependent modules in a network...

One good thing to know is to go to /SCIRun/bin/ and type:

ldd scirun | grep GL

to find out what drivers SCIRun is actually using as it has gotten confused with Fedora/Livna.

Good luck...

Quick test to see if your OpenGL is working to to type:

"glxgears"

in the command line window. If you get spinning gears you are usually in good shape. For ubuntu I have always had to install the graphics drivers (now easy with restricted driver manager), but don't have experience with the integrated cards.

Martin,

My glxinfo output is attached (so that it doesn't get clobbered by email formatting). Thanks for being willing to take a look at it... I wish I were a bit more self-sufficient.

If this is, in fact, dependency-related, you need to be aware of the questions I had about package names. I described them on the "talk" section of the Ubuntu Prerequisites page of the wiki at:

http://software.sci.utah.edu/SCIRunDocs/index.php/Talk:Ubuntu_Prerequisites_%28Packages_to_Install%29

Thanks again for any thoughts.

Can you send us your glxinfo output? This is most likely a GL
driver/video card issue.
