Regarding linux OS, I run ubuntu linux 64 on my laptop and a quad core
machine and it works really well with SCIRun. Also running on Fedora 7 64 at
the SPL and it has worked well with the following issue below for Fedora 7
with Livna nvidia drivers.
The developers at SCI helped on this one and provided a script which makes
sure that SCIRun finds the correct hardware OpenGL drivers. The computing
administrators did the actual Fedora installs so I don't know how standard it
was, but if you go Fedora and have problems

We did not have this issue on Ubuntu 64 and in general that has worked for
me. I also know that many of the developers work and test on Ubuntu so that
is something to consider. However, I believe Jeroen now has regression
testing running on Ubuntu 64, Fedora 7 64, and Suse 64, so hopefully all of
those work well.
Just two cents from an end user from a couple platforms...

Subject: [SCIRUN-USERS]
Hello, everyone.
My lab has recently acquired a workstation/server as a platform for SCIRun,
but we need to get a PCI-E video card that has at least 512MB and supports
(at least) dual monitors and will compatible with hardware, the OSes that are
on the machine, and, naturally, SCIRun.
The computer has an Asus KFN4-D16 motherboard with two dual opteron 2218 Dual
Core CPUs (2.6GHz) with 12GB of ECC RAM. This system will be dual boot into
Linux x64 (between CentOS/Fedora, haven't finalized it yet) and Vista x64. I
have been looking at several cards in the nVIDIA family including the 8
series (8800 GTS/GTX) or Qadro series (FX 1700/3700), and I was wondering
what people's opinions and suggestions on these choices are in terms of
compatability, how well they work, and worthiness. Other video card or
resource suggestions are also welcome.
Thanks a bunch,
Kevin
