Hello,
In my hands the "gaming" cards (7900 GTX etc) perform equally to the same
vintage Quadro cards (certified/optimized for many proprietary modleing/CAD
apps, cost much more, no additional benefit for SCIRun), so I was told to not
spend my money on the Quadro cards when I was making the same decisions last
year.
This may have changed, but this seems to hold up in practice on the 7900GTX
vs Quadro cards with same specs which were 3 times more expensive at time of
purchase that I also use at the SPL.
Clearly developers at SCI could tell you more.

Subject: [SCIRUN-USERS]
Hello, everyone.
My lab has recently acquired a workstation/server as a platform for SCIRun,
but we need to get a PCI-E video card that has at least 512MB and supports
(at least) dual monitors and will compatible with hardware, the OSes that are
on the machine, and, naturally, SCIRun.
The computer has an Asus KFN4-D16 motherboard with two dual opteron 2218 Dual
Core CPUs (2.6GHz) with 12GB of ECC RAM. This system will be dual boot into
Linux x64 (between CentOS/Fedora, haven't finalized it yet) and Vista x64. I
have been looking at several cards in the nVIDIA family including the 8
series (8800 GTS/GTX) or Qadro series (FX 1700/3700), and I was wondering
what people's opinions and suggestions on these choices are in terms of
compatability, how well they work, and worthiness. Other video card or
resource suggestions are also welcome.
Thanks a bunch,
Kevin
